The 18th Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival came to an end on Sunday 10th June for the 18th year in a row in Technopolis City of Athens with more than 46.000 visitors! The Technopolis City of Athens and the Onassis Cultural Centre joined forces for the 4th time and hosted the longest-running free musical event of the city.

Our talented host Gautier Velissaris has presented for the 8th year 21 music ensembles from all over the world that charmed the audience for 7 days, thus opening the musical summer in the city.

Everyone who came by Technopolis had the chance to not only have a wonderful jazz experience but also to take part in a plethora of side events. The jazziest version of the largest Meet Market that took place in Technopolis for a whole week was everyone’s favorite stroll before or after visiting three photo exhibitions: the annual exhibition of the METAPolis group Gender: Female, which made a lasting impression on everyone, as well as the exhilarating Image in Jazz and #my_greece of Greek Instagram Events, which are now an integral part of the event. Furthermore, this year we had 6 creative educational programs which comprised the Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival Kid’s Edition, whereas we welcomed the JAZZPOiNT Booknotes for the first time, an act under the Athens 2018 World Book Capital.

The festival had some new acts and surprises for its visitors. This year, we had an extra day, the Greek Showcase Day, which was -and will be from now on- dedicated to the Greek jazz scene. Additionally, the Festival’s Pick was introduced: two more music ensembles were introduced on the Industrial Gas Museum venues. Alex Dante Plays F. Chopin’s «Nocturnes» with his solo project as well as the original duet Drums & Voice Jazztronica Duo drew the attention of everyone who had the opportunity to enjoy them.

In detail, we watched on the stage of the 18th Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival :

On Monday 4th June: “Greek Jazz Virtuosos”: Athens Big Band feat. Dimitris Tsakas & Vassilis Xenopoulos, then the festival’s new music suggestion, “Mihalis Kalkanis Live” followed by the performance of the music ensemble that was chosen to represent our country, “John Balikos Trio”.

On Tuesday 5th June: “Ioannou/Vafeas Quartet” (Cyprus), “Greg Lamy Quartet” (Luxemburg) and “Accordi e Disaccordi” (Italy). On Wednesday 6th June we welcomed the “Drifter” (Belgium)All too human” (Denmark) and “Sebastian Studnitzky “MEMENTO” orchestral experience” (Germany).

On Thursday 7th June: “Enriquito Trio” (Spain), “Milan Svoboda Quartet” (Czech Republic) and “Under the Surface” (Netherlands). On Friday 8th June: Woody Black 4 (Austria), “Moncef Genoud” (Switzerland) and “Theo Croker” (USA).

On Saturday 9th June: “Espen Berg Trio” (Norway), “Brightbird” (Portugal) and “Peedu Kass Momentum” (Esthonia). This rich program was completed on Sunday 10th June with the “Mihály Borbély Quartet” (Hungary), “Isabella Lundgren and Carl Bagge Trio”(Sweden) and “Binker & Moses” (UK). Well, the epilogue of the festival couldn’t be any better!

The jazziest stage of the city hosted almost 24 hours live jazz music and we cannot wait to experience the magic again next year. When? → 27.05.2019 – 02.06.2019#JazzBeThere
