18th Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival

4th to 10th June 2018

#JazzBeThere: This year’s side events program will make us all be #KatheMeraTexnopoli

Ladies and gentlemen are you ready to jazz? Are you ready to meet your jazz self? Your jazz-edition self? This year, along with the coming-of-age of our favorite Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival  we have a richer than ever side events program which was seemingly created through a thorough and interesting improvisation. Each one of the side events will bring us closer to the jazziest version of ourselves and will make us love even more the jazz world as well as the festival!

Technopolis opens its doors and invites us to a 7-days program, plus this year’s festival pick: the addition of two more music ensembles which will take up some spots of the Industrial Gas Museum. They are Drums & Voice Jazztronica Duo, an unconventional duet with Nu Jazz sound and Alex Dante Plays F. Chopin’s «Nocturnes» in a solo project with a massive sonic field.

That is not the only innovation of this year’s festival. There is also the JAZZPOiNT Booknotes, an act under the Athens 2018- World Book Capital, which is an  annual international honor of the City of Athens by UNESCO, from 23rd April  2018 to 22nd April 2019. The JAZZPOiNT, after two successful years of book-jamming at the musical spot of Akadimias Str, comes to Technopolis for two nights to present us the musical literary project JAZZPOiNT BOOKNOTES, under the edit of the writer Maria Giagiannou. In the first meeting, the writer Alexandra K* brings her novel “The way the sea urchins kiss” (Patakis Publications, 2017) and meets the musician Thodoris Iosifidis along with his piano. Together, they give us a summer kiss that pinches the city’s cheek, whereas in the second meeting along with the 30 authors that were on the stage of Jazz Point, poets and novelists, we seek “what connects literature with music”, thus celebrating the ending of the first cycle of BOOKNOTES.

Neither one nor two but three photo exhibitions will be held for the people that will visit the #atjf2018! METAPolis will be there this year as well and they will present the highly anticipated female-themed exhibition Gender: Female. The Greek Instagrammers Events will join them with the photo exhibitions #my_greece and Image in Jazz. In the first one, two hundred and seventy talented photographers from the Greek community of Instagram show us their own view of Greece through their personal creative perception while in the second one, Amateur and professional photographers capture moments from the 17th Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival and previous events. A visual trip to the past that will help us relive the wonderful uplifting emotions jazz has to offer.

Additionally, in this year’s festival our little friends are more than welcome since we have 6 activities that make the Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival Kid’s Edition! The Novel Vox group, Dimitra Nikolopoulou and the Industrial Gas Museum will activate the children’s imagination with some special and imaginative activities under the sound of jazz. Also here, one of the acts of the Industrial Gas Museum takes place under the Athens 2018- World Book Capital.

Last but not least, yes, the jazziest version of The Meet Market will be there for a whole week with 120+ booths and many uplifting activities for both children and grown-ups.

The side events of this year’s Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival were designed in order to guide us to our own personal improvisations on our way to the jazziest scenery of the city. We will obviously be #KatheMeraTexnopoli!
